A wrap on boys tennis

The 2024 Spring season for the Varsity Washburn Rural boy’s tennis team has been an exciting one. Taking on duels against various surrounding high schools such as Hayden, Seaman, Shawnee Heights, Highland Park, Topeka West, and Lawrence Free State, Washburn’s boys went undefeated.

All together, the team won City, League and Regionals.

This year at state, hosted on March 10 and 11, Dylan Dodge, Lawsen Lobatos-Dick, Cale Deutscher, Keegan Knudtson, Brayden Kohls, and Dylan Willingham all qualified for the tournament.

The team finished in fifth place overall with 11 points.

Head Coach Brad Johnston explained how the season went overall.

“The most rewarding part of coaching this team was how they wore their heart on their shoulders. They didn’t let one match at a tournament define who they were as players. A loss didn’t affect their next match.”

For the upcoming girl’s season, Coach Johnston describes how, “We have a very senior led class that has a lot of potential. It’s always fun being around them, and the sky’s the limit.”
