
Ed Raines, the principal here at Washburn Rural High School, has been honored with a major statewide recognition. On October 10, he was named one of just three recipients of the Kansas School Counselor Association’s Principal Advocate Award.
According to the district this award presents, “school leaders who demonstrate exceptional support for comprehensive school counseling programs and who actively collaborate with school counselors to promote student success.” Under Raines’ leadership, student participation in programs like Washburn Tech has grown significantly, and the school has been recognized as an Apply Kansas All-Star for four straight years. He also supports mental wellness initiatives such as Sources of Strength, which helps create a positive and supportive school environment for every student.
By earning the Principal Advocate Award, Raines has been recognized not just for administrative leadership, but for his commitment to student well-being, counselor support, and data-informed growth. His work here at Washburn Rural High School showcases how strong partnerships between administration and counseling services can make a meaningful difference for students.
