The Washburn Rural High School girls’ basketball team quickly proved to be a top competitor going into game 5 with a 4-0 record, conquering Shawnee Mission East in two games, De Soto, and Shawnee Mission North. Coming off of a strong winning streak, last night (Jan 5.), the undefeated Lady Blues faced Olathe North in a grueling matchup. ONHS girls’ basketball headed into the game with a 3-1 record, ready to battle for their fourth victory – and battle they did.
WRHS started off strong in the first quarter, heading into the second with a 14-7 lead, but Olathe North didn’t give up easily, and went into half time with a 20-19 takeover.
The two teams gave their all until the very last buzzer, but the Lady Blues’ winning streak came to an end as Olathe North took the game by 15, finishing with a 50-35 score.
Despite the setback, the girls will head to Junction City on Jan 6. to take on the Bluejays, who, like the Lady Blues, are sitting at 4-1 so far this season.
