With spring sports approaching, many teams at Washburn Rural High School have already begun their preseason conditioning, including girls soccer.
Coach Hensyel talked about the benefits of having preseason conditioning and how he thinks it sets a standard even before the season starts.
“I think having pre-season conditioning is important for a few key reasons that directly impact the success of our program. It gives athletes structure and specific times each week to focus on improving their fitness level, which helps set expectations early. It also allows new players to meet returning players, build relationships, and feel more comfortable and confident when tryouts take place.”
Going into the next season Hensyel and many of the returning players have high expectations for the girls soccer program, and every year they strive to be one of the teams capable of competing for a state championship. Although they lost 11 talented seniors from last season’s championship team, many strong and experienced players are returning and are committed to making another run at state this year.
