This month, the WRHS Shack is holding a food pantry here at the school to help students in need. They are asking for people to donate nonperishable food items.
The Shack started in September during Hunger Action Month, and has been continuing to gather donations in this multi-month effort. In Shawnee County, 10.5 percent of people struggle with food insecurity, with 15 percent of those being children. In Kansas, 12.1 percent are affected, and nationally, 13.5 percent are affected.
The Shack asks that people drop off items like macaroni and cheese boxes, ramen packets, dry cereal, pasta and pasta sauces, and other nonperishable items. They are also asking for clothing items. The students and staff at The Shack have been working very hard and are very dedicated to this effort. All donations need to be dropped off to the main office or designated spots before Thanksgiving Break. Make sure to donate before time is up!
