The 2025 Auburn-Washburn School Board Election took place on Tuesday, Nov. 4. There were five positions open for election: District A, Position four; District B, Positions two and five; District C, Position six; and At – Large, Position seven. Ten potential candidates were in the running for these positions, including returning board members Joe Faul, Bryan Smith, and ShaNoah Emory. The new candidates included Chris Phelps, Kenneth Johnson, Nolan Weigel, Adam Angelini, Chris Tanner, Jamie Stafford, and Ty Dragoo.
In Position four, the candidates being voted on were Chris Phelps, Kenneth Johnson, and Nolan Weigel. The residents voting for these candidates are located in the northwest area of Topeka, covering the Wanamaker Elementary region. Adam Angelini, Chris Tannner, and Joe Faul are running for Position two and the results will be determined by the people of the south and southwest areas of Topeka. This includes Auburn Elementary, Pauline South, and Pauline Central.
Also being voted on by this region of the district is uncontested and returning board member applicant, Bryan Smith. For the position six candidates, Jamie Stafford and Ty Dragoo, will be decided on by the central voters of the district. These voters belong to the Jay Shideler Elementary, Indian Hills Elementary, Farley Elementary, both middle schools, and Washburn Rural High School area. ShaNoah Emory, who is also both an uncontested and returning board member, is being voted on by the entire district.
The election results for Position two was Joe Faul, winning by only 14 votes. The winner of the Position 4, representing the northwest region, was Kenneth Johnson. He won his position by 271 votes, which was 44.9 percent of voters. In the Position 6, Jamie Stafford won by 762 votes in the central area of the district. Bryan Smith and ShaNoah Emory were both running for positions that were uncontested, therefore they were automatically elected for their board member role.
