WRHS Boys Basketball competed in the Pittsburg Bill Hanson Invitational from January 19-21.

WRHS opened the tournament on Thursday night facing off against Joplin H.S., Joplin, Missouri. The Blues got off to a fast start and cruised to a 68-30 opening round win.

The next night the Jr. Blues didn’t have it so easy, having to face perennial power Blue Valley Northwest.

This time WRHS was on the receiving end of a BVNW quick start. Although the guys played the Huskies even in the second half they never really cut into the first have early deficit, losing 43-61.

Washburn Rural finished the tournament 2-1, defeating Pittsburg 69-63 in the third place game. The Blues were led by senior guard Jack Bachelor who scored 18 points and had three steals in the game. Senior forward Jacob Hirschi contributed with 13 points. JC Heim led the team in rebounds with 8.

The win pushed the boys’ record to 8-4.
