Midterm Elections

The midterm elections are taking place Nov. 6, 2018. This election will decide what party takes control of the executive and legislative branches of government. Republicans currently hold both the House and the Senate, but the elections allows plenty of room for change. There are 35 seats available in the Senate, and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives. A lot of people may vote as a way to express their trust or distrust of the president. Trump commented on the possibility of the Republicans losing their hold; he thinks that the democrats will cause anything they’ve done to be revoked.

“They will overturn everything that we’ve done and they’ll do it quickly and violently, and violently,” Trump said.

There are some memorable people running for election. On the democratic side, Dianne Feinstein is running for Senate. She authored the assault weapons ban and has held her seat since 1992. Old presidential candidate Ted Cruz is also running for Senate, though as a republican. The Ted Cruz website discusses the promotion of gathering natural resources for the benefit of the public.

“The United States is blessed with rich and expansive natural resources, and passage of AERA would ensure that we do not sacrifice our economic growth and national security at the altar of unnecessary and irresponsible regulation” .

Nevada also has a close race coming up. Republican Dean Heller and Democrat Jacky Rosen will likely be neck and neck. The two have different strengths but are running in a historically democratic state, giving Rosen the upper hand, however, Heller has a history with Nevada. In Kansas, there are multiple people running for elections to look out for. Every vote makes a difference and has the potential to change the progress of the race.
