This Saturday, April 25th, Washburn Rural will host its annual State Solo and Ensemble Music Festival, welcoming student musicians from across Kansas. The event will run from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and feature performances in band, choir, and orchestra.
Students who qualified at the regional level will perform either solo pieces or small ensemble pieces in front of judges, who evaluate them on technique, tone, musicality, and overall performance. The festival provides musicians with an opportunity to showcase their individual skills outside large group settings while receiving professional feedback to improve.
Throughout the day, the school will be filled with performers moving between rooms, warming up, and preparing for their turn to play. Each performance is brief but important, as students aim to earn a high rating that reflects the work they’ve put in leading up to the event.
By hosting this event, Washburn continues to show its tradition of supporting fine arts and providing a space for young musicians across the state to grow, perform, and connect through music.
