Every year, students at Washburn Rural participate in the infamous “senior skip day”. While the event itself is harmless, the staff at WRHS says otherwise. According to the WRHS 2023-24 student handbook, “Senior skip days are not supported or condoned by the school”. While the school’s official policy advocates against senior skip days, some students consider it a rite of passage. In order to attend any sport practice, you must attend school for a minimum of three hours that same day. As usual, spreading the word about senior skip day is crucial for the event to take place, so all seniors are encouraged to figure out the right information as well as discard any rumors or falsehoods. One common misconception is that the school will withhold student’s diplomas if a certain amount of seniors are not present on any given day. However, this is not legal according to article 53 of the 2016 kansas statute. Please continue to exercise common sense whenever planning an event outside of school, and remember to keep school spirit alive!
