Coach Spotlight; Coach Hutchins

Mia Taggart and Hadlie Brady

For this week’s spotlight we are doing our boys varsity basketball coach; Alex Hutchins. I have asked him a few questions on his thoughts about the upcoming season.

  • Predict how you think the overall 2022-23 season will go.
    • “I wish I had a clue. It’s tough to tell how things will go with a new coach, new expectations, new schedule, etc. We’re going to work hard and see what happens. I think we have a chance to be a really competitive team.”
  • What do you think will be the team’s biggest obstacle this year?
    • “Our biggest obstacle will probably be just a lack of interior size. We have pretty good height on the perimeter, but we don’t have many true bigs that are 6’5+ like most 6A schools.”
  • What have you learned from past coaching experiences that will help you improve your team this year?
    • “I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from past experiences that will apply to this year is that the season is a long journey. What a team looks like in December and even January doesn’t have to define what they are when all is said and done.”
  • What will be the team’s greatest strengths this season?
    • “I think our greatest strength will (hopefully) be our skill and shooting. Sometimes shooting comes and goes throughout a game or season, though; so we’re going to have to find ways to play on offense and defense where we don’t just depend on getting hot.”
  • Do you have any advice for the underclassman or incoming freshman?
    • “Have fun, enjoy the ride, and make as many friendships and memories as you possibly can.”
  • What are you most excited for this season?
    • “Just the journey, the relationships, and the memories to be had.”

Make sure to go support our basketball girls and boys this season.
