The Washburn Rural girls basketball team competed in the state tournament from March 9 through March 12.

In the opening round on Wednesday they played the 5 seed, Dodge City. The top seeded Lady Blues had a rough start but pushed through and won 66-43, thanks to their shooting performance.

The Lady Blues then took on Olathe North for the semi-finals game on Friday. The game went back and forth with a very strong performance by both teams. Even though the game was back and forth, the Lady Blues held on for a one point heart wrenching win, 44-43. The win sent the team to the state finals.

The championship took place onĀ  Saturday with a rematch with Derby, who the Lady Blues defeating Derby in their mid-season tournament bu 17 points. The Panthers struggled shooting due to the aggressive defensive play by the Lady Blues.

The Lady Blues went on to become state champions, winning the game 40-23. Addi Brown ended up leading the Panthers with 11 points while Brooklyn DeLeye led the Lady Blues with 13.
