Wresting Teams Compete in Centennial League Championships

Both the boys and girls wrestling teams at Washburn Rural High School have returned with historic wins from their most recent competitions.

The boys team competed in the Centennial League Championships on Saturday, Feb. 8. Washburn Rural won the school’s first-ever Centennial title. 12 out of the 14 boys ended up in the finals of the tournament, and eight received individual titles. Overall, the boys won with a score of 286-178. 

The girls competed in their very first Centennial League Championship on the same day and lost by only one point to Emporia with final points of 157-156. However, five girls on the team received individual titles. 

After their League performance, the girls competed at Regionals on Feb. 15. They returned home with a regional title after scoring 190.5 points, 88.5 more than the second-place team. Six girls qualified to compete at the State Competition on Feb. 27th.
