Impossible Whopper Review

Being a vegan, especially in a town like Topeka, can be tough. While a few restaurants are beginning to include vegan options, many of these are ludicrously expensive and taste mediocre at best. There are barely any fast food options for vegan food, which can be annoying when you don’t feel like paying to go out to a sit-down restaurant or putting in the effort to cook at home.
In early August of 2019, Burger King launched a new product that addresses these problems–The Impossible Whopper. This burger has all of the same key pieces of Burger King’s signature Whopper, including tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise and pickles. The difference, of course, is that the Impossible Whopper patty is made of completely fake meat.
At only a dollar more than the regular Whopper, this sandwich solves some of the biggest problems of eating vegan while out and about. Not only is it cheap, but it’s a much quicker and easier option than any other vegan food in town.
The question, of course, is the taste. Is the Impossible Whopper actually good?
As someone who has only eaten one real burger in their life, I may not be the best person to judge how accurate the Impossible Whopper is. However, I have eaten my fair share of fake burgers, and the Impossible Whopper is by far the best one I’ve had to date. It doesn’t taste like beans, or mushrooms, or anything else you don’t want on a burger. It tastes like meat.
This is probably because the Impossible Whopper is engineered to be the most meaty non-meat product possible. It includes heme, the protein that makes meat taste like meat. This protein actually makes the Impossible Whopper “bleed” when you bite into it. It’s a morbid thought, but it certainly makes for a good burger.
Overall, the Impossible Whopper is a cheap, easy, and tasty alternative to the real thing.
