Helen Hocker Haunted House

Emily Hoopes, Writer

The Helen Hocker Theater is a local attraction producing plays and other activities for the community to enjoy. One of their major events is a haunted house which is put on every year by the staff.

As a theme is placed on the haunted house, there are many possibilities of what could come. Last year people going through the haunted house where welcomed by characters of a circus variety with the added on effect of Halloween.

This year the theme was changed to Project Terror: Bathhouse of Blood. Which ties into the history of the Theater that was previously a bathhouse for those back in the 1930s.

Held within the theater everyone in the community is invited to come and enjoy with just a small fee of 15 dollars. They are put through a maze with jump scares around every corner will very little light to prepare yourself for them.

The event was shown from October 12th all the way through Halloween night, which was the busiest night of all. With a line all the way out the door into the parking lot, the tense built as you got closer to the door.

I attended on Halloween night and was not let down by the performance of all the characters. The ability by the staff to always remain in character in and out of the haunted house for the audience to see was very impressive.

Overall, the experience was thrilling and a successful way to spend the night. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to spending Halloween in a fun way and can not wait to see what next years theme will be.
