The Washburn Rural band took on a challenge this weekend by attending and competing in the Olathe Marching Invitational that showcased sixteen different bands. Some of the schools that attended were Shawnee Mission East High School,Oak Park High School,De Soto High School,Blue Valley Southwest High School and Spring Hill High School. Some local schools from Topeka that also attended were Seaman High School and Topeka West High School. The Olathe Marching Invitational started off with prelims where all sixteen schools would compete with their performances to advance to the finals and three of the schools competing in the prelims would be cut in the process.
The Washburn Rural band was able to make it pass prelims and advance to the finals and placed 10th overall out of 13 schools. The top three schools at the Olathe Marching Invitational were Blue Valley Southwest placing first,Buhler placing second and Spring Hill placing third.
