On Saturday October 11, the Washburn Rural cross country team attended the city cross country meet hosted at Seaman High School. The schools who competed include Highland Park, Shawnee Heights, Hayden, Topeka High, Seaman, Topeka West, and Washburn Rural.
Washburn Rural boys and girls swept the competition winning both races in the team scores. The boys team had a score of 24 points and an average time of 16:50. This was their 19th straight city title. The girls team had a score of 18 points and an average time of 19:45, almost three minutes faster than the second place team.
Individually, the Washburn Rural runners stood out in the races. For the boys, senior Brooks Kehoe had the fastest time on the team with 16:10, followed by Duke Graf, Clayton Fink, and Jaxson Adams. These four runners filled in the second through fifth place finishes in the 5000 meter race. On the girls side, senior Emily Graf placed first with a time of 19:18 and freshman Alyson Hinck came in second running a 19:38. These girls were followed by senior Kenzie Maddox, Reese Beardslee, and Morgan Munson who placed in the fourth through sixth spots.
The Washburn Rural Cross Country team has a strong chance of finishing in the top spots in their next few races. They will be attending regionals on October 25th, and State cross country is on Saturday November first.
