On Tuesday September 23, orchestra students traveled to Manhattan to attend the Tallgrass Music Festival, which is an annual all day event that held numerous clinics for high school students.
The students left early in the morning to travel to Kansas State University, where it was being hosted. The festival took place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students learned from many different KSU music professors and guest composers at the clinic. They had classes on how to conduct, and they also gave out information on Kansas State University programs as well as campus tours.
All of the students attending were separated into two groups that were given different music. They all performed a farewell performance at the end. The festival allowed students to meet other high schoolers from around the Midwest and learn from many skilled musicians. Also, it prepared students for the all-state orchestra, if they were interested in trying out for it.
