The class of 2026 kicked off the school year with their annual bike ride on the first day of school, August 13. The bike ride is organized by the seniors, but it also needs to be approved by the principal, Mr. Raines.
The bike ride starts at 7:15 in the morning, before school starts, and the seniors wear their best little kid outfits or senior jeans. Senior jeans are painted jeans that usually feature seniors and their graduating year, decorated in any way they like. Parents or guardians are needed to pick up the bikes at the school because students aren’t allowed to ride their bikes back from school.
Seniors ride their bikes from the elementary school, Jay Shielder, to the high school, Washburn Rural, before school is in session. Their bikes are intended to be picked up after they arrive at the high school.
In the future, other senior classes should think about continuing this tradition. This is a way for seniors to start their senior off with a fun and exciting bike ride to the school while other students watch as they drive by. This is just the beginning to all the traditions that the class of 2026 will do as the school year goes on.
