On June 15-20 Washburn Rural’s Speech and debate team will attend the 2025 national tournament held in Des Moines, Iowa celebrating the 100th year anniversary.There are three different categories of events and the team has qualified more entries this year than any other year with 18 total entries.
The Debate events consist of Policy debate, Public Forum Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, House, and Senate. In Policy debate; Kavinayashri Chidambaranathan/Aditi Nimishikavi and Gopikaashri Chidambaranathan/Jace Raines. In Public Forum; Harris Chaudhry/Campbell Height and Rebecca Reed/Aryan Verma. In Senate; Sophie Heinen. In House; Zain Chaudhry.
Speaking events that will take place are Domestic Extemp, Oral Interp, Informative, and International extemp. Competing in Domestic Extemp; Terrence Bird, Manaswini Koduru. In informative; Ophelia Lackey. In International Extemp; Kennedy Wright.
The acting events will include Humorous interp, Duo interp, Dramatic interp, POI, and poetry. Representing Washburn in Humorous interp; Miriam Smith. In Duo interp; Cambria Hall/ Holly Sorrenti, Will Boyd/Lizzy Sturgeon, Morgan Boose/Jaidan Loreman. In Dramatic interp; El Conran. In POI; Arianna Smith. In Poetry; Abigail Buckhlater.
This season the team had an amazing set of coaches such as Tim Ellis, Lexi Ellis, Sean Duff, Nicholas Beasley, Evander Davis, Emma Schroeder, and Zach Willingham.
