As winter comes to an end, so does winter conditioning. A commonly asked question about winter conditioning programs is whether or not they are worth the time. Washburn Rural hosts many different winter conditioning programs but one of them is the distance running program, ran by Coach Swed and Coach Sig. The program usually starts around Dec. and goes until the first week of track practice. Coaches will post a workout schedule that abides to different levels of runners weekly to keep the athletes in shape during their off season. There is an impending question of whether or not it is actually a beneficial resource for these athletes. Kate Wolgast, a first year cross country runner, shares her opinion, “I probably wouldn’t have ran as much, I wouldn’t be doing as much intense running, at home I’m not given a training plan, the training plan is what keeps me on track”. The program seems to be keeping the athletes in shape and motivated for the upcoming track season. Keep up the great work Junior Blues!
