On Wednesday, January 29 the Washburn Rural boys’ wrestling team had a dual match against Mill Valley. It was the boys’ senior night where they recognized the following seniors: Easton Broxterman, Kristjan Marshall, Walker Doyle, Dallas Koeling, Sean Leduc, and Israel Escobar. All of these wrestlers have put in the hard work over the past four years to create the success that is Washburn Rural wrestling.
Rural ended up winning the dual 54-28, creating a 26-point margin between the two schools thanks to some key performances, some by the seniors who were recognized. Easton Broxterman and Kristjan Marshal both secured pins in their matches, proving why they are both ranked number one in 6a for their respective weight classes.
The Junior Blues wrestlers will wrap up their regular season with one final challenge before entering league, regional, and state competitions. Their next test comes at a tournament in Shawnee Mission North on Saturday, February 1, where they will look to build momentum heading into the postseason.
