HOSA, which stands for Health Occupations for Stations of America, is a club at Washburn Rural High School where students learn about the different paths in healthcare.
The club is sponsored by Chemistry teacher Shelley Wichman, who helps students learn about career pathways, job responsibilities, and the required education needed for the job. Students also learn about different college and technical programs to continue their education if they are interested. There are also many programs in high school that are eligible for students to take which help them get a head start on their healthcare career.
The club also goes on field trips to provide hands-on experiences for students, such as Stormot Vail Hospital and the KU Medical Center, where they participated in the Health Career Exploration Day. The club’s president is senior Bristol Kaar, who started volunteering at Stormont Vail, gained her passon about healthcare and wanted to give the same opportunities to others. If you are someone you know is interested in joining HOSA, the club meets every club date in room B3314.
