Simon Rowley is coming along as a Washburn Rural Jr. Blue and showing how great of a combo-guard he is. The 6’0 junior leads the Centennial League in points per game and field goals made (according to MaxPreps), but his numbers tell only a part of the story.
This season, Rowley is making terrific plays on and off the ball. His patience, combined with his playmaking, has made him nearly impossible to defend.
Rowley feels this team is a true competitor.
“This year’s team has goals, we feel we can reach. Winning the Centennial League and making it state,” he said.
If Washburn Rural would make it to State, it would be the first time since the 2018-2019 season where they placed second, losing in the finals to Blue Valley Northwest.
Rowley, a Topeka West transfer, stated the transition to Washburn Rural has been great. He said, “The transition has been awesome from school, to people, to basketball. I’m around people who want me to get better everyday and succeed. Especially with basketball I’ve learned patience. It’s been a long journey, from not playing for a whole year, to helping the team win. I love it here.”
When it comes to describing his style of play, Rowley said, “I would say I model my game after Jalen Brunson. He controls the game well, finishes around the rim, is very shifty, and can get to his spots to create shots for him and his teammates.”
