McCown Gordon Construction is completing an expansion and renovation at Washburn Rural High School. It started being constructed earlier this year and is on scheduled to be completed next fall. The project includes a 60,000 square foot addition to the school and a 7,000 square foot addition of a new multi-purpose/gymnasium wing.
One of our Career Development Coordinators, Mrs. Golden, said, “The new CTE building is supposed to be ready for staff to move in mid-October. The availability of furniture and equipment all being in place before students are allowed to take classes there. Classes that will be in the new building are all the welding, Agriculture, Construction and Design, Presidential Carpentry, CAD and Drafting, Robotics, Biomedical Research, IT, Computer Principles, and Media classes. The benefits of it would be that it would allow for new technology for students to work with and the excitement of being able to expand current projects that our kids are working on. Also, the interest of CTE in general will be increased as far as awareness of opportunities given to students and what they will be able to do.”
This project will also include a new JROTC area in what used to be the Journalism rooms. The new JROTC area will also include a shooting range inside. This project is an extensive renovation with three summers of work, so the McCown Gordon team is working closely with the school to phase the project in the most efficient way possible.
