A peaceful protest was held at Washburn University during noon on may third by students currently attending the university. While the protest remained calm and organized compared to similar protests across the country, students had much to say on the topic of the ongoing Israel/Palestinian war. The student’s goal was to request transparency to the school in it’s potential funding for Israel. The protest occurred on the northern quarter of the campus, with estimates of around 40 protesters in total.
Governor Laura Kelley encouraged the protests to continue as long as they remain peaceful and non-disruptive to local establishments and people. The ongoing war is just one of many in the 76 year long battle between the two countries, with the current battle for Gaza lasting for 215 days. Several bystanders joined the protests in favor of advocating against antisemitism. Future protests are allowed as long as they remain peaceful and cooperative with state laws.
