This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and no one is more excited than the staff of Washburn Rural High School! Students are encouraged to thank their teachers and other staff members for all the hard work that they put in to make our school run smoothly. In 1950, the first push for a nationally recognized day of appreciation for teachers started when the first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, took up the challenge of advocating to congress to establish a specific holiday honoring teachers.
Teacher Appreciation Week always takes place during the first full week of May. Teachers should also take advantage of the discounts that come with teacher’s appreciation days. Establishments such as Buffalo Wild Wings and McAlisters Deli! Establishments offer discounts to these hard working individuals. Celebrate this week by thanking some of the teachers who have made a difference during the years that you have attended Washburn Rural High School. The impact teachers make in the lives of their students can last into adulthood. For that, we should all be thankful!
