On Friday, February 23, 2024, the Washburn Rural High School orchestra will perform their program on the state stage.
Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) is being held this weekend in Wichita, Kansas. This is a huge convention being held in Wichita, KS for band, choir, and orchestra. KMEA All-State bands, choirs, and orchestras will be rehearsing and performing this weekend.
In between clinics, performances, and workshops, the WRHS orchestra will be performing on the main stage at Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center. This orchestra is one out of two high schools that got the opportunity to perform on the state stage at the KMEA convention.
Their program consists of Forever Joyful, Apocalyptic, A Prayer for Peace, and Today. They have been working on these pieces since the beginning of August 2023.
All of Friday, the orchestra students will be excused from all classes and will get on the bus at 6:45 a.m. to get to Wichita. After they perform, they will stop and eat lunch at Braum’s. Everyone within the orchestra program is excited about this honor.
