On Friday, Feb. 16, the Washburn Rural High School Student Council held its annual Hall of Fame ceremony. The Hall of Fame started in 1976 as a way of honoring graduates and different sports teams who have achieved significant accomplishments.
This year, former student Kelsey Chipman Stringer, who earned the Kansas Gatorader Player of the Year, as well as the 6A State Player of the Year was selected. She received multiple city honors in volleyball and basketball and was named one of the top five athletes in Topeka/ Shawnee County history.
The 1950 and 1952 men’s baseball teams were also inducted into the Hall of Fame for winning the school’s first state championship and the only undefeated baseball team in school history.
Finally, the 2002 men’s soccer team was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for winning the school’s first state championship and the only undefeated team in school, city, and Centennial League history.
