On Tuesday the Junior Blues faced off against the Topeka High men. After a great win last week against Hayden during formal week the Junior Blues knew they had to finish off their last away game of the regular season with a great win.
The game started off with a great offensive three point shot by Topeka High Da’Mykel Hales. The first point by the Junior Blues came from senior J.C Heim with a free throw shot to bring the game to 6-1 under 5 minutes in the first quarter. With a dominating defense by Topeka High the first quarter ended with the score being 11-7.
After a great first quarter Topeka High was not going to stop attacking, with the first score coming within 10 seconds of the quarter. With a terrible start the Blues finally scored in the quarter by Griffin Durst with a layup. After fighting their way back though, the Blues were behind by a point when Amare Jones scored a perfect layup on a fast break to put them ahead one point. Going into halftime the score was 21-24 and the Junior Blues were up ahead by three.
After halftime, the Junior Blues were ready to start the third quarter. The first points of the quarter came from another Amare Jones layup and after a back and fourth quarter and with 1:14 left in the game the score was 44-57 with the Junior Blues in front. The final score was 48-61. After the game the leading scorer for the Junior Blues was Amare Jones who had 21 points in the game.
