Lately, Students have been noticing a concerning amount of new potholes in the parking lot of Washburn Rural High School.
Following the cold weather a few weeks prior, the freezing of the ground beneath the concrete caused cracks, ultimately weakening the pavement above.
Because of this, driving for students, staff, and visitors has become more difficult and the concern of car damage has increased.
WRHS police chief Samual Ralston gave his insight on the situation:
“When we have potholes that show up or problems with the pavement in general, we turn those into our district’s operations team and decide whether or not to fill it, cut out to fix it, or resurface the entire parking lot surface.”
“Every year the operations team looks at every campus in the school district and looks at the condition of the pavement. They then make a list of what needs to be done in priority. The high school parking lot is scheduled to be resurfaced in 2025”
