On Thursday, Jan. 18, the boil water advisory for the city of Topeka was lifted.
The advisory was issued on Sunday, Jan. 14 due to a broken pipe which resulted in low chlorine within the water systems. As of Thursday, the city lifted the advisory and reminded people that people should flush out their water pipes for 10-15 minutes, and the water will not be reimbursed. Ways to do that is to do laundry, wash dishes, take a shower, or any activity that allows water to go through the pipes to flush them out.
The advisory was originally set to expire on Friday, Jan. 19, but due to quick lab testing of the water, the advisory was lifted early. However, residents and businesses in the Shawnee County Rural Water District 1C and the Metro Topeka Airport Authority are still on a boil water advisory and should continue to boil their water until further notice.
