Washburn Rural high school had a great basketball game on Wednesday night, both the guys and girls had wins against Topeka High. The girls team, whose record is 5-2, have won all two of their home games. The Junior Blues were playing a tough opponent and they needed a win after losing to Hayden high school the week before. The game started off good they were point for point and it looked like it was gonna be a fun game. The start of 2nd quarter the Junior Blues was up by 20 and into the half the game was not close and we were still up ahead. The Junior Blues were lead by senior Zoe Canfield who was the leading scorer with 17 points. The final score was 56-26.

The boys had a great battle against Topeka High and it was indeed a shoot out. The Junior Blues guys were really hyped after beating Hayden the past week and they showed it during the game. Topeka High put on a fight the scores they were putting on and the game was close during halftime. After, halftime we got to work and didn’t give up, and after the third quarter we were up ahead by 20 points. One of the biggest factors to the Junior Blue win was the play of Griffin Durst, a senior power forward. Durst lead the team with 21 points to propel the Junior Blues to the 89-65 Centennial League win.
