On Tuesday, Jan. 9, and Wednesday, Jan. 10 students and staff in the Auburn-Washburn district had snow days.
On Monday, Jan. 8, around 4 p.m. the announcement on Facebook and local TV stations stated that school would be cancelled for the following day. Throughout the day, Topeka received a total of 3.1 inches of snow, which was more than predicted. Students and staff expected to go back the next day until around 5:30 a.m., when the word was given that school would be cancelled due to road conditions throughout the Auburn-Washburn District boundaries.
Due to the road conditions, primarily in rural areas, buses were unable to complete their bus routes, which is a reason school was cancelled. There was no new snowfall recorded on that day. On Thursday, all students and staff returned back to school.
