Washburn Rural has had a new production in theater this month and I decided to talk to some of the cast and get their background story on Frankenstein and how they got into theater. Next we have Miriam Smith!
- What role did you play in Frankenstein?
- “I played the creature”
- How and why did you get into theatre?
- “I originally started theater when I was very young, 3 or 4, doing small plays with my mom who directed them.”
- Have you ever gotten a role that you didn’t originally audition for?
- “Last year during Much Ado About Nothing (my first WARU show) I auditioned for Don John, the villain, but ended up getting cast as one of his sidekicks. I usually overthink what role I want to audition for, but I’ve typically had pretty good luck. Mostly the director just wants to see your acting style.”
- Give me some of your favorite parts about playing in Frankenstein.
- “I liked different parts of the show on different nights, I also just really enjoyed the rehearsal process.”
- What has your favorite performance been so far? Why?
- “It was absolutely unlike anything I’ve done before, both an extremely physical role and lots of memorization. One of my favorite things was how much my character developed throughout the show. I had a lot of fun working with everyone involved with the production, me and my co-star Cade Nelson spent many hours picking apart and analyzing every detail so by the end I felt like I knew the show inside and out, and we were able to work together flawlessly. I also appreciate our director Mr. Rosebrook. I was able to explore a lot of my character on my own while still having his helpful guidance. This is a unique show for a highschool to do so I’m glad he chose it.”
- If you could change anything about your performance in Frankenstein what would it be?
- “As any artist or performer will tell you, there are always things they wish they could change, but as a whole I feel good about my performance and I’m proud of the work every single person put in.”
