For this weeks student spotlight we are going to interview some of our seniors that were recognized at the football game last Friday night. First up we have Hayden Keller representing cross country.
- What made you want to run cross country?
“I decided to try cross country my freshman year to stay in shape for baseball. I didn’t really know what the sport was at the time though. I ended up being pretty fast, making varsity, and just fell in love with the sport.”
- How long have you been running?
“I have only been running for a little bit over 3 years.”
- Who is your mentor? How did this relationship form?
“My mentor is my Coach Swed and all of my alumni friends. Coach Swed is the one who really helped me with everything and got me to where I am today in my running career. I was also brought up quickly by the upperclassmen. I made many upperclassmen friends, so I got to experience their culture and dedication early on. They kept me dedicated, taught me things, and showed me that running cross country can be a really fun sport.”
- What is your favorite thing about cross country?
“My favorite thing about cross country over my 4 years would be the connections and memories I made along the way. Cross country definitely helped shape me and I have got to experience so many awesome things through the relationships built. We do so many fun things together outside of just running.”
- What has been your favorite meet this season?
“My favorite meet so far this season was the City Championship! It is always such an important meet, as the guy’s team just secured the 17-year win streak. I got to break down the entire team right before the race, and the atmosphere was super cool.”
- What are you looking forward to most during your senior year?
“This senior year I’m looking forward to getting a pr, state, nike regionals, track, being the senior leader, and deciding where I want to go after high school.”
