The Washburn Rural High School choir group, directed by Ben Holcomb, had their first concert of the 2023-2024 school year on October 5. The concert officially started at 6 p.m., but members of the choir had to be there at 5:30 to prepare. There are six different choir groups: Concert Choir, Ambience, TG (This Generation), Chorale, Treble Choir, and Tenor/Bass Chorus. They will be divided into two concerts and each will perform. Tenor/Bass Chorus, Concert Choir, and Chorale all performed at 6 p.m. Ambience, Treble Choir, and TG will perform at 7:30 p.m..
The Tenor/Bass Chorus consisted of freshmen boys. They performed the songs The Music of the Sea, Tell my Father, and I Wished to be Single Again. Concert Choir is open to any grade upon audition. They performed the songs Plenty Good Room, Turn the World Around, and Feel the Power. Chorale is open to any grade in high school and you have to make it in by audition. They will be singing O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf, Flower of Beauty, and In Remembrance.
Ambience is the freshmen girls choir. They performed the songs Regina Coeli Jubila, It was a Lover and his Lass, and Down by the Riverside. The Treble Choir is also open to anyone of any grade. They performed the songs Have you Seen the Beauty of This Day?, After the Rain, and When I Close My Eyes. TG is only available to juniors and seniors in high school. A selective group of people are picked to be in a smaller ensemble, creating a more advanced choir environment. They performed the songs Sicut Cervus, An Irish Lullaby, I’ve Got a Robe, and Easy. This was a great and successful start for the WRHS Choir Program for this school year.
