Washburn Rural High School is currently undergoing construction. The school plans on expanding onto the school where the west teacher parking lot used to be.
The school is hoping this construction can be completed by the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The windows on the west side of the building are all boarded up and the doors that lead outside are too.
This expansion to the school is going to be a new CTE building. This building includes more of the hands-on classes. For example, the welding and woodworking classes will be getting new and improved classrooms.
There will also be an updated spot for students who work on building the house during the second semester in this extension. This is a big improvement for hands-on learning classes as there will be more space and resources available to expand creativity.
Also, there will be a greenhouse on the 2nd floor, which will be beneficial for horticulture classes and animal science classes.
Another set of classes that will be improved by this new addition is Journalism. Yearbook classes and newspaper classes will be getting new classes and even new resources to help broaden the opportunity.
This is also a great improvement, as the Journalism department will be able to have an actual broadcasting set up and recording studios. There will also be private study rooms, lounges, and offices.
Overall, this construction will help to inspire more creativity and opportunity within students at WRHS.
