This week is Washburn Rural High School’s Homecoming week. The Homecoming dance is on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 8 p.m.
The night before, Friday, September 22, 2023, the football team plays Manhattan, where they will announce who wins homecoming court. The theme for this game is homecoming shirts or just wear anything blue.
Another anticipated event of homecoming week is the homecoming parade. This is where clubs and activities decorate trailers as “floats” that match the theme, this year being “Dancing through the Decades”. The parade goes throughout the roads of the whole campus, including the middle school. Later, in a couple of weeks, students will vote on what float deserves first – third place.
Many activities are decorating their floats after school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before the actual parade. The Orchestra program is playing a Beach Boys Medley on the float, so their float will be a 70’s, beach theme. Everyone will be dressing up according to that theme and whatever else they want to include.
Another club, FFA, will be doing a 1920’s theme dressing up as old-aged farmers, which goes with the homecoming theme and what their club is about. This is also the first year that the Girl’s Soccer Team got to create a float for the parade. There are many fun decorations and organizations to look forward to seeing at this parade.
