For this week’s student spotlight we are focusing on our girls tennis team. We have asked Anna Martinson a few questions about her interest in tennis.
-
Why did you decide to start playing tennis?
- I started playing tennis because I was really bored at the beginning of freshman year during quarantine and thought it would be fun and a good excuse to leave the house.
-
What is your favorite part? Least favorite?
- My favorite part of tennis is Fridays when we get to watch everyone prepare for the Friday football game and talk about our weekend plans. I also love how it feels to hit a great backhand in a match. My least favorite part of tennis is probably having to pick up after practice or that time I accidentally hit Audrey in the head when I was serving (she cried).
-
Who is your mentor? How did this connection start?
-
My mentor is probably Audrey Meek because she is a nice person but also makes me a better player (by being better than me). She is always ready to have fun and has helped me learn how to integrate fun into physical exertion. This started when I showed up to tryouts freshman year and had no idea how to hit a tennis ball, and she taught me (at tryouts).

If you could play any other sport what would you choose?
-
If I could play any other sport, I would probably play volleyball because I am abnormally tall or badminton because I am absolutely goated at it, and I want to be a cool old lady and that is so cool old lady vibes.

Who is your favorite professional tennis player? Why?
- My favorite professional tennis player is probably Alexander Zverev because me and my grandpa used to always watch him together, so watching him makes me feel sentimental.
