WRHS Debate wins 6A State Championships

On January 14-15 the Washburn Rural High School Debate team won this year’s 6A state championships in both four and two speaker debates. It is the sixth consecutive state championship for the WRHS Debate team in the four speaker category and only the second time in state history for a team to win both four speaker and two speaker competitions.

Sonya Doubledee, Donna Jalosjos, Jiyoon Park, Zach Willingham, Lauren Reed, Karrissa Kromminga and Coach Tim Ellis scored a perfect 16-0 mark in the four-speaker competition to outpace Lawrence Free State, who finished second.
