Mask mandate restart

Mystie Russell

Since August 22, masks have become required for all visitors, staff, and students when inside of any school/Auburn-Washburn facility.

In only one week of school, there have been around 50 new positive COVID cases in the Auburn-Washburn district according to the district website. There were seven positive cases in the middle school, 13 positive cases in the elementary schools, three staff members had positive cases, and 27 high schoolers had positive cases. All together, 170 staff members/students are currently in quarantine.

The new mask requirements will be re-evaluated at the November Board of Education meeting. Mask expectations have been signed by a licensed and qualified medical doctor, so that staff and students will be able to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Social distance will be encouraged as much as possible. The purpose of wearing masks is to keep people from getting and spreading the virus.
