Boys Cross Country State Championship
November 7, 2019
The Washburn Rural Boys Cross Country Team won the 6A State Championship at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. This is the first time the team has placed first at the state meet. Junior Arrik White has participated in cross country for three years.
“I started to cry because I realized all of our hard work finally paid off,” White said.
Senior Jordan Tremblay fondly recounts the winning experience.
“After we found out we won, it was a feeling like none other,” Tremblay said. “There was just no better way to end my senior and high school season, and especially with these guys we had on our team this year.”
The team progressively worked harder to achieve their goals throughout the season. The team gained a new coach this year, Coach Hill, who works alongside Coach Swedlund, Coach Louderback, and Coach Wagner. Tremblay describes the motivation and the support the coaches give them as one of the main reasons they won.
“I have for sure progressed over the last four years thanks to Coach Swedlund providing us with workouts to make us better each week,” Tremblay said.
Later this month, the cross country team will take on the Nike Cross Regionals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. If they win, they will then take on Nationals in Oregon during December.
