North by Northwest

Major Copeland, Writer

In this classic Alfred Hitchcock film starring Cary Grant, Roger O.Thornhill, his character, is mistaken as a government spy that is being pursued by a rogue agent.

Grant is then put right in the middle of a man hunt for his mistaken identity. He then meets Eve Kendall, played by Eva Marie Saint, and falls madly in love with her.

Hand and hand, the two go on a race across the country endlessly trying to beat the grips of the evil Vandamm who is trying to kill him.

This movie first premiered in theaters on Oct. 22, 1959. This movie is a great example of a live action film that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat.

It features Cary Grant which already means that it will be a good movie on top of the fact that it was an Alfred Hitchcock film, one of the greatest directors of his time.

Everyone gravitated toward his movies because of his talent to intrigue the audience with his screenplay and his ability to mix the perfect amount of action and romance into the perfect movie.

On top of everything that is already going great for the movie, the most dramatic scenes in the whole movie happens on the edge of Mount Rushmore.

It captures every aspect of a great movie and because of this event though it came out over 5 decades ago it manages to stay timeless in every aspect of the word.

Most would not even think to watch it because it is such an old movie. For those who believe this they are seriously missing out.

I do not know what I love more, the dialogue or the action. And this is not Hitchcock’s only masterpiece. He has produced many blockbusters including Dial M for Murder and Rear Window.

This movies are cinematic excellence in the way they are constructed and how the dialogue carries the movies leaving you on the edge of your seat wanted to see more right after you leave the theater.

All and all, North by Northwest is the the movie of the century. This movie changed the way I look at all movies. Even with the technological disadvantages of the 1950s, North by Northwest still managed to be one of the greatest of its time.
