Senior breaks pole vault record

Senior Zac Chandler who has been a member of the soccer and track and field team for all of his four years in high school. Chandler started to do pole vault his sophomore year. On March 31 a 24 year old pole vault record was broken Chandler. Chandler jumped 15,1 in order to break the record. As Chandler recalls the night he remembers his initial reaction was to run over to his coach.

“I went straight to Coach Pfeifer and gave him a huge hug,” Chandler said. “He has always been there pushing me to do better.”

On April 14 Chandler would break his own record again jumping a 15,3. Chandler was very surprised to jump not only the school record but then to go and break his own record that he set.

“I wasn’t expecting to break the school record,” Chandler said. “Breaking my own record again made me more motivated to jump even higher.”

Chandler announced on April 16 that he will be furthering his academic and athletic career to be participate in pole vaulting at Washburn University.
