For this week’s student spotlight we have asked a couple of students in the art program on how they got into art and some questions on the big portrait they have made of a staff member here at Washburn Rural. First off we talked to senior Raegan Patterson.
When did you first really start getting into art?
“I’ve always been into art but it really started when I was in 3rd grade.”
What is your inspiration for most of your pieces?
“My inspiration for most of my pieces is things that I love and care about, I am specifically passionate about creating art that shows family and friends.”
Do you have a favorite part or process of art?
“My favorite part about art is being able to create something with meaning I specifically love painting.”
For the portrait of Mr. Davis, What were the hardest parts of completing your squares?
“For the portrait the hardest part about completing my squares was being able to get the amount of color and shading to match up to other squares of other people.”
How long did it take you to finish your part and what techniques did you use?
“It took me about a week to finish my part. I first went in with my charcoal and added more darker shades and then went in with an eraser and added highlights and shaped.”
